Today while driving to a meeting with a client in Sherman Oaks, I decided I need to do more on the ground work helping more homeless people face-to-face. The limited encounters I have with people in my city and surrounding cities are stepping blocks to a bigger goal I wish to accomplish. So I thought what better day to do more than World Homeless Day?
I’m right next door to the capital of homelessness; Skid Row, and I’ve only been there a couple times. I was fortunate enough to meet with Andy Bales of Union Rescue Mission who generously provided me a personal tour of his facility. I told him I wanted to help out, and recommended teaching others the benefits of computers, the internet and providing free blogs with the #NoBoxBlogs Project since that’s where my vast experience lies. But I also said I’ll help out anyway I can. Andy gave me the number of one of his volunteers, and I did call him a week later, but communication was eventually dropped. I was waiting for him to call me back to schedule a meet, but for whatever reason it fell through. I regret not calling him back again, but now I’m more motivated to meet with their whole team soon.
I plan on contacting Andy and URM to see what their plans are for this year’s World Homeless Day 2012 event on October 12th. I’d like to have some of you join me and many other organizations to help people on the streets and help educate those who are willing to listen. Are you interested?
If you’d contribute your time to World Homeless Day and want to join up with Mooch, let me know below or via social media or contact URM via their website at http://urm.org. Let’s do simple acts that create global change. More info soon. Stay Passionate.
