Who deserves your time and money most? Homeless pets or homeless people?

I’m all for making the world as a whole a better and healthier place, but I also have my priorities in those I advocate for. Someone recently asked me why it’s so much easier for people to donate and advocate for homeless pets than it is for homeless people. This was my response:

“Animals are cute, homeless or housed. People believe it is not their fault if they don’t have a home. Whereas a homeless person is thought of as a smelly, lazy person who is homeless because of poor decisions on their part. Difference for me? There’s no comparison between dog and man. You can buy a dog and it has an owner. You cannot buy a human being and do what you want with it. I will always advocate for homeless people before homeless animals.”

How do you feel about why it seems so much easier to get help for animals than it is to get help for humans?
