Last week I saw a photo being shared on my Facebook page about how to whiten your teeth for free. Seeing how it was simple and accessible for me, especially in my current circumstance of homelessness, I thought I’d give it a try. So, today was my first day brushing my teeth with a banana peel!
Yup. I took my friend’s banana, cut a few 3″ pieces and placed the inner peel up against my upper and lower teeth and moved it around for 2-3 minutes while driving. Don’t do it while driving. Afterwords I felt as though I brushed my teeth like normal!
Now before you go and start yelling about me stealing a banana, rest assured I asked my friend for his banana peel after he had eaten the fruit inside. I told him about my idea and I wanted to give it a shot.
Here’s how to whiten your teeth with a banana peel:
- Use a ripe banana if possible as it has the most potassium in it at this stage. Peel from the bottom end as this is how monkeys peel their bananas and it will keep you from having all those loose threads. Hey I swear! Or at least eHow.com does!
- Take a piece of the inside of the banana peel and gently rub around on your teeth for 2-3 minutes. The natural minerals in the peel including potassium, magnesium and manganese absorb into your teeth and help to whiten them. Free!
- Repeat the same procedure morning and night. Leaving the banana peel on longer is optional if you have stains that need to come off.
- Do the banana peel routine twice daily to see teeth whiten faster. Now you can smile and share your wonderful free teeth whitening secret!
